About the Position:
CQ Roll Call is looking for a talented journalist to join our esteemed reporting team. As a Journalist focusing on health policy, you will collaborate with our experienced health team to produce a daily newsletter that covers federal health care policy developments relevant to key decision-makers in the nation. This role is instrumental as health is one of our core areas of coverage, and our health newsletter is highly regarded within the industry.
You'll have the opportunity to cover a wide range of topics within health policy, including federal legislation, appropriations, and agency policies, with a particular focus on institutions like the CDC, FDA, HHS, and veterans health. Join our collaborative team to provide timely and insightful coverage of Capitol Hill and beyond.
About the Team:
The health reporter role is an integral part of CQ Roll Call's mission to provide comprehensive coverage of policy and politics, ensuring transparency for readers across government and private-sector organizations.
About You:
We are seeking a self-motivated journalist with a passion for staying ahead of the curve in health policy reporting. You should have a deep understanding of congressional procedures and key players in both Congress and the executive branch. If you're ready to contribute to a collaborative team environment and have experience with webinars, broadcast interviews, and conferences, we want to hear from you.
What to Expect in This Position:
- Reporting and writing compelling stories on health care and health legislation
- Building and maintaining a network of sources in health policy
- Expertise in analyzing legislation and federal spending bills
- Proactive involvement in shaping the content of our health newsletter
- Contribution to various CQ Roll Call products, including videos, podcasts, and events
- Flexibility to work congressional hours, including evenings and weekends, to cover legislative activity
What Sets You Apart:
- 5+ years of journalism experience, preferably covering health care and federal agencies
- Demonstrated coverage of Congress or federal agencies for a reputable news outlet
- Strong computer skills, including data analysis tools like Excel
- Ability to produce scoops and feature stories under tight deadlines
- Exceptional communication and organizational skills
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
