Purpose:
The International Consultant will lead and manage the development of a Climate Landscape Analysis for Children (CLAC) in South Sudan, collaborating with a national consultant. This analysis will inform programmatic shifts for UNICEF South Sudan by applying a climate lens to all aspects of the country program. The consultant will collect, compile, analyze, and review key resources, conduct stakeholder analysis, and provide strategic guidance for integrating climate, energy, and environmental issues into UNICEF's programs.

Background:
UNICEF works globally to promote children's survival, protection, and development. Addressing climate change, energy access, and environmental degradation is crucial for building a sustainable future for children. South Sudan is highly vulnerable to climate change impacts, posing significant threats to children's health, education, and protection. The CLAC aims to understand the climate, environment, and energy landscape in South Sudan and identify child-sensitive approaches for UNICEF's programs.

Scope of Work:
The consultant will develop the CLAC, hold consultations with key stakeholders, and provide recommendations for integrating climate, environment, and energy issues into UNICEF's programs. Deliverables include a CLAC report, climate finance strategy, policy brief, communication materials, and presentations.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

  • Advanced degree in environmental science, climate policy, or related fields
  • Over 10 years of relevant experience in international climate change policy or environmental advocacy
  • Proven track record in policy advising and development
  • Excellent communication, research, and analytical skills
  • Experience working with UNICEF or in child rights is an asset
  • Previous work experience in conflict-affected regions is desirable
