Position Title: Farmer

Department: Field

Hours: 40-45 hours weekly, 7:15 am to 5 pm - schedule can be adjusted with Manager's approval

Reports to: Field Crew Manager

Wage: $19.00 - $30.00 per hour depending on experience

Job Description:

The Farmer serves as a pivotal member of our core farm team, embodying the standards and essential skills integral to our farm's operations. Reporting to the Field Crew Manager, the Farmer is a year-round employee entrusted with leading our Farm Hand staff and facilitating daily tasks. This role involves mastering our growing methods and systems, setting exemplary standards for seasonal field workers, and collaborating across departments including Farmstand, Wholesale, and local CSA customers.

Farmers may progress to specialize in entire crop categories such as Tomatoes, Root Vegetables, Alliums, or Greens.

This position offers higher compensation commensurate with greater expectations, responsibilities, and enhanced learning opportunities about our farm and cropping systems.

Key Responsibilities:

• Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and passion for farming, including soil management and community engagement.
• Participate in all aspects of crop production, encompassing seasonal field production, year-round high tunnel production, and greenhouse operations.
• Adhere rigorously to established procedures, maintain team focus, ensure meticulous crop cultivation and harvesting, and provide guidance as required.
• Lead daily tasks, ensuring precise, efficient, and safe completion according to each team member's capabilities.
• Proficiently utilize diverse tools and uphold cleanliness and organization standards in work areas, tools, vehicles, and storage units.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience in farming or related agricultural work is essential.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
• Strong leadership skills, with the capability to instruct and motivate others effectively.
• Willingness to adapt to changing priorities and work in diverse weather conditions.
• Physical stamina and capability to perform tasks involving lifting, bending, and prolonged outdoor work.
• Commitment to upholding high standards of quality and efficiency in all aspects of farm operations.
