Description:

The Programme Specialist, Comprehensive SRHR, starting from August 1, 2024, will be the focal point for sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) and Maternal Health Linkages, particularly focusing on comprehensive abortion care (CAC) at the global level. This role involves analyzing and identifying integration opportunities across various areas and linking services and interventions within and beyond the health system. The Specialist will work within the Maternal and Newborn Health Thematic Fund (MHTF) team, collaborating across the SRHR Branch and liaising with internal and external partners.

Responsibilities:

Conceptualization and Implementation of Comprehensive SRHR and MNH Programming:

  • Identify integration opportunities and support implementation of comprehensive SRHR interventions.
  • Strengthen capacity and knowledge management on unsafe abortion, post-abortion care, and comprehensive abortion care.
  • Review country program documents and work plans for SRHR integration.
  • Develop SRHR integration indicators and provide technical input to tools and guidance.

Capacity Building on SRHR Integration into MNH Programs:

  • Provide technical support to focal countries and other offices related to comprehensive abortion care.
  • Contribute to capacity building on Values Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT) modalities.
  • Disseminate policy and guidance documents and promote their implementation.

Ensuring Linkages Between SRHR/MNH, Gender, and Adolescent and Youth Program Streams:

  • Integrate and link thematic areas of MNH and SRHR with adolescent and youth programming.
  • Support gender transformative and human rights-based approaches within MHTF.
  • Ensure integration between MNH and GBV services.

Supporting Efficient Management of Overall MHTF:

  • Contribute to annual work planning, evidence generation, and best-practice documentation.
  • Act as focal point for a set number of MHTF countries.
  • Assist in reviewing MHTF proposals, work plans, and budgets.

Qualifications and Experience:

Education:

  • Advanced university degree in Public Health.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Five years of experience in global public health, focusing on comprehensive abortion care.
  • Experience in program implementation and technical assistance in low-resource settings.
  • Familiarity with UNFPA's mandate and working within a multilateral agency.
  • Excellent communication, writing, and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in English required; French proficiency is an asset.
