Mission and Objectives:
UNDP in Nigeria aims to eradicate poverty through sustainable and inclusive human development. The Risk Analyst - Social and Environmental Standards will ensure compliance with UNDP's Social and Environmental Standards (SES) to protect people and the environment across all programming.
Context:
The assignment will take place in Abuja, Nigeria's capital. Nigeria is a multi-ethnic and culturally diverse society with abundant natural resources, including being Africa's biggest oil exporter. With a large youth population, Nigeria faces various development challenges.
Task Description:
Under the supervision of the Team Leader, Environment and Energy, and with guidance from the Team Lead, Programme Management Support Unit (PMSU), the Risk Analyst will:
I. SES Oversight and Quality Assurance
- Conduct quality review of early drafts of Social and Environmental Screening Procedure (SESP) to ensure proper risk identification.
- Quality assure draft and final SES documentation for projects to meet technical standards.
- Track progress of high/substantial risk projects' implementation of required Social and Environmental Standards.
II. SES Capacity Building
- Conduct a capacity assessment to identify baseline quality of SES documentation and capacity needs.
- Develop and implement an action plan to strengthen implementation of SES.
- Support capacity development, awareness raising, and training for the CO team and partners.
III. SES Knowledge Management
- Document lessons learned and best practices.
- Maintain a library of project safeguards documents.
- Prepare an annual report on SES implementation, capturing key lessons learned and recommendations.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Age: 27 - 80
- Nationality: Spanish nationals
- Required Experience: 3 years in quality assurance, capacity development, knowledge management, and social and environmental standards
- Area(s) of Expertise: Development programmes, Natural and life sciences, Energy and environment
- Languages: Fluent in English
- Required Education Level: Bachelor's degree or equivalent
